Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is the term used to describe a group of chronic disorders with impaired control of movement. It is evident at birth or in the first few years of life and generally does not progress. Detailed investigations are required to try and identify a cause. The overall recurrence risk is low (1%), but several subgroups have a higher risk without definite external cause, congenital ataxia, symmetrical tetraplegia and the athetoid type.
