Pharmacogenomics

Pharmacogenomics is the genome-wide study of the influence of genetic variation on drug response, to identify new drug targets and features of the genome that are useful for optimising therapy.

The term is often used interchangeably with "Pharmacogenetics" - which is the study of the influence of heredity on drug response - that is, how genetic differences between individuals may cause them to respond differently to a particular drug.  The emphasis in pharmacogenetics is perhaps more on single genes, particuarly those encoding enzymes involved in drug metabolism.
