Stratified medicine

Stratified medicine is the use of one or more clinical biomarkers to identity therapies more suited for specific populations of patients.

For example, patients with lung cancer where the cancer has a mutation in the EGFR gene (the biomarker) are more likely to respond to the drug gefitinib.
